[net.micro.atari] Atari Software News from the CES

kek@mgweed.UUCP (Kit Kimes) (06/05/85)

Here are my first impressions of the software from the Summer CES show:

Several software companies did not have booths at CES. Those that did
had very few new releases and in fact seemed to have cleaned up their
catalog quite a bit. If there are any old games that you want to get
a copy of, I suggest that you watch the sale racks or contact your
favorite software store about getting copies before it is too late.

EPYX: Besides the two lucasfilm games already released, they were
showing two more under development. Kevin Thompson did a
nice review on these a couple of days ago. They definitely
said that they will not be developing a version of ROGUE for
	the Atari computer systems.

DATASOFT: Their catalog shows that they are going to release the whole
ALTERNATE REALITY series for the Atari and this is still the
plan as of the time of the show.

ACTIVISION: Several of the new releases are only for the C64 although
they said the Atari version has not been ruled out. Of the
ones announced for the Atari, MASTER OF THE LAMP, THE GREAT
AMERICAN CROSS-COUNTRY ROAD RACE and the SLOT CAR CONSTRUCTION
program (forget the exact name) look like the best of the lot.
I got to talk to the designer of the GREAT AMERICAN CROSS-COUNTRY
ROAD RACE and play with it for awhile. The graphics are very
good and there are several games in one; you can run one leg
of a race from one city to another or the whole continent. You
choose the route and the starting time (this affects the traffic
in the cities depending on what time you get there). There is
a scoreboard where you can enter your name if you are in the
top 10 and it writes the scoreboard back to disk so it is saved
until someone beats it. You even enter the date so you will
know when you did it. I read one review the didn't give it a
very good review but I was impressed.

I'll cover some more of the latest software news later but I wanted to
get some of it on the net for all to enjoy.
