Speaking of ramdisks, the June issue of ANALOG Computing has an article titled `V: A Memory Storage Device' which will allow you to create a ramdisk in any model Atari computer. You can list or save to the handler V: but as it does not support a directory it can hold only one file at a time. Depending on the amount of free RAM in your system it is NOT erased by going to the DUP menu! This makes it hundreds of times faster than using a MEM.SAV file. V: is extreamly useful for clearing the variable table of BASIC programs by listing the program to V:, then typing NEW, entering from V:, then saveing to disk. It also comes in handy for merging program segments or re-arranging them. The program is reset safe and it's only limitation seems to be dependent on your available RAM and that you can't use any DOS copy functions as they will almost certainly wipe out anything in V:. --- Kevin Thompson {ucbvax,ihnp4!nsc}!voder!kevin "It's sort of a threat, you see. I've never been very good at them myself but I'm told they can be very effective."
