[net.micro.atari] Hooking 5.25" drives to the 520ST

I'm trying to hook up a 5.25" floppy drive to my Atari 520ST. So far it
hasn't worked. Has anyone else had any luck?

The 520ST uses the WD1772 disk controller chip. The folling signals are
used by the 520ST:

  DRIVE PIN Signal

     2,4,34 not used
          8 Index/sector (drive output)
         10 Drive 0 select
         12 Drive 1 select
         16 Motor on
         18 Direction Select
         20 Step
         22 Write Data
         24 Write Gate
         26 Track 00 (drive output)
         28 Write Protect (drive output)
         30 Read data (drive output)
         32 Side one select
       rest ground

I hooked the drives (Teac 5.25" and Atari 3.5") together with a 34 line
ribbon cable, and wired in the dirve 1 select line. All signals look okay,
but it doesn't work. Also I removed the termiation resisters and tripled
checked the jumpers. I was working with a Teac quad. density double sided
drive. Any ideas?

                    Thanks,
                        Wayne Knapp

P.S. The reason why I want to do this is that 2 double sided 5.25" drives
with power supply cost less than one Atari drive. I plan to have a switch
that will let me switch in the 3.5" drive as drive zero or switch in a 5.25"
drive.
