There seem to be a few people out there with developer's kits for the atari 520ST. I would like to set up a mailing list so we can exchange hints, suggestions, ideas on writing software on the ST. If you are interested in being a part of this mailing list please reply to me. To the others on net.micro.atari, I am not suggesting that we bypass net.micro.atari but that details of this sort are better suited for mailing lists. If anything of general interest comes up I will of course relay it to net.micro.atari. Thanks. -ravi -- ARPA: eneevax!ravi@maryland UUCP: [seismo,allegra]!umcp-cs!eneevax!ravi

I have been following this discussion with interest and have one question- WHO have you guys called to get your kits? The Atari reps I have talked to have said things like "Oh, yeah- they made those for a while and sold them for around $2000" (!!!). Please write me with a person's name and telephone number if you have actually succeeded in getting a Developer's kit for $300. THANKS! Charles Lord ...!decvax!mcnc!ecsvax!cjl

The $300 package is *just* software and is available only after you have proof of purchase of an atari ST. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Erik James Freed Aurora Systems San Francisco, CA {dual, ptsfa}!aum!freed

You can get the ST, Mono, Color, 1 single sided drive, 1 double sided drive for around $1500. You can get the ST, Mono, Color, 1 single sided drive, 1 hard drive for about $2400. One mail order operation has been buying the "big package" and selling the pieces. Caveat - Atari has a strange return/warrenty policy. The warrenty is provided/sold by the dealer. Local dealers provide it free, but are under no obligation to do so. I am told that this policy may change soon.

The hard disk is the Haba drive not the Atari low-cost drive. With all the options, buying an Atari will be like buying a component stereo. Dealers seem to be a little upset with Atari. No matter how hard they try to sell the higher profit machine, people buy the Atari. One dealer has sold out three times. The problem, he's got 128's for the same price. Since dealers seem to be sadly lacking in imagination, let's give them some help. Show them Ravi's 1meg upgrade. Maybe they will show a little more enthusiasm if they can charge $150 for $6 in parts and an hour's work. Any info on EXTERNAL ram upgrades?

I think that there's enough interest about the $300 development package to post a name and phone number to the net. Will someone please do this. Phil Rastocny ..!drutx!pmr
