[net.micro.atari] Atari cassette interface on 8-bitters, and modem

fisher@scotty.DEC (Burns Fisher, MRO3-1/E13, DTN 231-4108.) (09/26/85)

Re the interface between the cassette and the Atari:

First, Atari's cassette does the demodulation itself. It sends serial TTL
at 600 baud back to the computer. However, it wants analog tones to record.
The Atari simply uses a couple of its music voices to generate them. So
it is relatively easy to simulate a cassette player with another computer.
It is more difficult to simulate a recorder.

Secondly to the person who asked about the cheap modems...I am not familiar
with the modem itself, but as to software, make sure that it comes with the
communication cartridge. If it does not, Atari is selling them cheap. (~$6)
See their 4-page spread in October 85 Analog.
