[net.micro.atari] DS/DD 5 1/4" floppies

For those of you who have seen the Antic article on using 5 1/4" floppy
drives with the 520ST, I have some interesting information. The author
of the article takes the approach of modifying the connections on an
existing 3 1/2" disk drive to get the correct signals to operate a 5 1/4"
disk drive. This, of course, voids the warranty and is quite messy in
appearance. The author takes this approach because he could not find
a 14 pin DIN connector to make the correct cable needed for the hookup.

I thought that there must be an easier way to do this, so I called my
local authorized Atari service center to ask them if they would sell
me a cable to go between my 520ST and the 3 1/2" disk drive. They said,
"Of course!" If you want to use a 5 1/4" drive with your 520ST, modifying
this cable would be the way to go. You would avoid warranty problems, and
the resulting setup would be much neater in appearance.
