For those of you who have seen the Antic article on using 5 1/4" floppy drives with the 520ST, I have some interesting information. The author of the article takes the approach of modifying the connections on an existing 3 1/2" disk drive to get the correct signals to operate a 5 1/4" disk drive. This, of course, voids the warranty and is quite messy in appearance. The author takes this approach because he could not find a 14 pin DIN connector to make the correct cable needed for the hookup. I thought that there must be an easier way to do this, so I called my local authorized Atari service center to ask them if they would sell me a cable to go between my 520ST and the 3 1/2" disk drive. They said, "Of course!" If you want to use a 5 1/4" drive with your 520ST, modifying this cable would be the way to go. You would avoid warranty problems, and the resulting setup would be much neater in appearance. Barry Locklear AT&T Information Systems Labs ihnp4!druhi!lbl
