[net.micro.atari] 520ST Sound generation

I have read zillions of messages concerning the audio chips of the Amiga,
but nothing about the ST. The ST's I've played with have been absolutely
silent. Is there any sound capability at all? If so, is there an internal
speaker, or must (can) the sounds be played through a stereo or amplifier?
(Does the RGB monitor have a built in speaker?)

...I'll summarize mail responses to the net.

*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE ***
the ST uses a standard video game type chip from GI (general instruments) i
cant remember the number right now but i have the user manual and will be
glad to send you a copy if you wish. it is a 2 voice chip and can produce
music and decent video game type sounds, but sure aint the Amiga or even the
C64 sound chip.
