[net.micro.atari] Why pay $125 for PC/InterComm if Kermit is/will be free?

Hess@MIT-MULTICS.ARPA (10/12/85)

Because it is a VT100 emulator, mostly. It has ASCII upload and
download capabilities, with delays, echo prompts, etc. Also Modem7, and
as you mention, Kermit. Auto-dial strings programmable, function keys
can send pre-defined key sequences, "history" mode where you can scroll
back through the stuff you've been sent, printer controller mode, and
some other less important stuff. But mostly because it is a VT100
emulator.

I work for Mark of the Unicorn, so the things I say might be biased.
But I'm only allowed to answer technical questions, so there's little
enough room for bias.

On the other hand the 520 emulates a vt52 (vt100 is coming) gratis as part
of the OS, so kermit automatically runs in vt52 emulation mode
