[net.micro.atari] 520 ST uses GI 8910???

Well, I guess it's official. According to the posted TOC
of ANTIC magazine, the great new ST uses the GI-8910
sound chip.
How could this have happened? This chip is inferior
to the original Atari 800 chip, let alone anything that
could be designed today! I have just started working with
the 8910-8913 series and know what the limitations are
(there are some good points too, but ...)
Ya know, my 8910 docs are dated 1979 or so.
I'm just surprised that such a neat new machine
would use such an old chip.
Now, does the ST have D-A converters and DMA
and hardware timers to play sampled audio thru them?
Because that's how you'll get any decent 4-part
music out of that box.
