[net.micro.atari] Disk drives, etc.

cel@CIT-HEX.ARPA (10/21/85)

I have a certain amount of experience in hooking up
extra drives to the Percom...last year I got one of those
surplus RX180AB's, and interfaced it without much problem.
The same drive was also purchased by friends of mine to hook
onto Radio Shack color computers and others. Apple uses a strange
disk format/data encoding scheme, but that's all in the controller
board and I think the drives are standard.

If you can find a Percom, by the way, BNF Electronics is still selling
the RX180's (still in their DEC boxes) .... 2 double density
single sided drives in a very nice cabinet with power supply for
$200 according to the last catalog I have. They're surplus but
brand new. Apparently DEC dumped them when the "stick a micro in
your VT100" campaign flopped.

Drop a line if I can help with more information.
