I have a friend who is considering buying a 520ST as a word processing machine.
To help him out, I went down to one of the local computer stores that is
carrying the ST and checked one out a bit. The salesman was less than
helpful however, and I have some questions:
1. Having looked at both the B/W and color monitors, my feeling is
that anyone doing word processing should go with the B/W. As
far as I can tell, if you have the color monitior you cannot
use the 640x400 monocrome graphics mode at all! Is this
true? If not, how does text look on a color monitor playing
at being monocrome.
2. How big are the disks? I have heard several numbers banged
about.
3. Is there a cut and paste word processor available or in the
works? I saw "ST-Writer" and "The Final Word", neither of
which uses the cut and paste/mouse driven technology.
4. What is available in the way of printers? Does Atari make
a printer? Can one use other printers?
4. The following strikes me as the "right" configuration for
word processing (draft only):
Computer
2 disk drives
monocrome monitor
matrix printer
Does that sound right to the ST owners out there?
Please reply by mail.
