We have been told by distribution that ATARI intends to ship 520ST packages (CPU, 500K 3-1/2 drive, and Hi-res mono. monitor) by July 1, 1985. We anticipate delivery by 3rd week in July.

Well, we got our stock 520 ST today... Very nice, but the BASIC won't be out
for a while yet, and the GEM won't be available on ROM until the bugs are out.
In reply to the RS232 question someone posted, it looks like a standard
RS232...(isn't that what a standard is?), but I guess you wanted a list of
the active pins...I'll post when I get the chance later.
Latest word on the GEM in ROM is that it will be a $50 upgrade for early
models, but will be included in later ones (around Oct.)
Haba Software has a C compiler in Beta-test, and a 10Meg hard drive that
is FAST (about 7 times the speed of the already fast micro-floppy).
The color version is excellent, and a special cable is used for the
monitor connection so the 520 knows which monitor is hooked up. This
info is used to control the display! Output destined for the hi-res
monochrome monitor can't be viewed on the color monitor and vice-versa.

Please forgive me if this should be routed to net.micro.atarist, but I don't know if there is one: I need a summary of the features of the 520ST. My brother-in-law saw a "real good deal" on an ibm-compatible (a Zenith Z-148) with a printer for $1800. I'd sure rather see him get a more capable, up-to-date machine like the Atari (btw, the Amiga is just out of his price range). If you can summarize, please send directly to me. Thanks in advance. Pardon if this ain't the place, but I don't know where else I should ask: I need a summary of the 520ST:my brother-in-law is about to buy a PC-compatible (ugh!) Unless I can convince him to get the ST. Any help will be appreciated. Jim -------
