[net.micro.atari] New Atari Mailing List

c50-2fl@ucbseymour.BERKELEY.EDU (Atariz) (10/26/85)

Hello,
I have started a new Atari mailing list. It will be run in the same
fashion as Hacker's Guild. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Hacker's
Guild, it is a mailing list that deals with advanced topics on Unix,C
or anything in general. Well, my mailing list will deal solely with Atari
machines, both the old 800 series and XL's and the newer ST series. The
format of this mailing list is as follows:

      (1) Anyone can send in questions or comments about any Atari related
	  item into the mailing list.

      (2) Anyone can respond or flame the individual if he so chooses.
In this way, some of the more experienced Atari users can help
some of the novices and neophytes with questions.

      (3) This list will also disseminate some of the rumors about Atari.
(i.e. spread gossip about the happenings in Atari land)

      (4) I will also describe some projects that some individuals are
working that are Atari related.(i.e. hard disk development,
battery backup for the ST clock, hooking ST's to 5 1/4 inch
drives and reading IBM format data disks,...)

      (5) Announce any new developments in the way of software, hardware,...

Of course, I won't do all of the above all the time. You also have the
chance to send in any Atari tidbit or program source for some program
that you have been working. Looking toward the future, (if this list
survives), I am thinking of starting some tutorials about advanced
topics such as DLI's(Display List Interrupts), Player Missiles and so on
for those who are new to Atari computing or just want to learn.
If this list does take off, I will plan to distribute these tutorials
to only those who request it so as not to miff the advanced users.
I am still looking for someone to send in a question or comment. All
I have received so far are a lot of requests to join.

If the volume of mail suggests this, I may have to send this list
out as a digests. If that happens, I will try to lump all questions
about such and such into one giant letter.

That reminds me. If you would like to join the list please mail your
		    requests to :

		          (ARPA) mail-atari-request@ucbugs.Berkeley.EDU
                          (uucp) ...!ucbvax!ucbugs!mail-atari-request

If you would like to mail any articles to the list,
		    send them to:

		          (ARPA) mail-atari@ucbugs.Berkeley.EDU
		          (UUCP) ...!ucbvax!ucbugs!mail-atari

If you get your mail returned from one of the addresses, please send it the
other.(i.e. If your mail is bounced back from the ucbugs acct., send it to
the requests address(ucbseymour). Ucbugs is a flaky machine and it goes
down every once in awhile for no reason, hence the name ucbugs.)

I hope this answers any questions concerning the list and I await a load
of mail from Atari users and enthusisasts!

How are you going to send out the digests? By US Mail, eMail, uucp or what?

I still do not understand what is the correct address for this. Is it:
	 net.mail.atari?
	 mail.atari?
or what. (I have tried sending to !ucbvax!ucbugs!mail-atari -- we
will see what happens to it.)

Why don't you start with some of the questions that have been asked in just the
last week on net.micro.atari? I do not see why we need to start sending
questions to two groups, when one should do. Partly, this is probably due to
my not understanding how your example works. Could you make it a little more
clear for us neophytes?
