I have read the requests of information about the Happy software which is out. I have purchased a Happy upgrade for both the 810 and 1050 drives. The 810 comes with the version 5.3 software and the 1050 came with version 6.6. The 810 and 1050, using these versions respec{tively, will not communicate with each other. Also, 6.6 does not come with Multi-drive. I was quite frustrated. I wrote a letter to both Happy and the people I bought The kits from, both of which responded to me quite rapidly. Both did state that Happy is trying desparately to get the version seven updates out by the Xmas holiday time frame. (This will please me to no end) The version 7 will make the 810 and 1050 talk the same language. I use the 1050 as drive 1, as the 1050 comes up and reads/writes at a faster rate than the 810, and is also double density. The 810 runs as drive 2. I must say, however, that I am quite "happy" with the drives, and consider them far advanced over a "stock" drive for their basic read/write speed improvements alone. Mark

Kevin Thompson {ucbvax,ihnp4!nsc}!voder!kevin In response to everyone looking for or asking about HCI's Happy Revision 7.0 for the Atari 810 disk drives. I talked to Richard Adams last Thursday (11/21/85) and he has assured me that the new revision will be shipped BEFORE the end of this year. Like many others, HCI has had my money for Rev. 7.0 since last January, but unlike anyone else, HCI also has software that belongs to me. They have had this software for over 1.5 years. I have been told (again by Richard) that only a few changes are left to be made to the software, before it can be shipped. As soon as I get the new revision I will post the fact. And if anyone else gets it, PLEASE post the fact here, or send me mail. I really miss my software. I hardly remember what it is, or what it does. <> RE: HAPPY upgrades. Would someone pleased with the Happy upgrades explain why? Why would you want to upgrade a 1050 when an Indus drive is about $200? Wouldn't you be better off buying something else in the first place? If I were to buy the upgrade for my 1050, what improvements could I expect? harold ravlin {ihnp4,pur-ee}!uiucdcs!uicsl!hr
