[net.micro.atari] 256K 800XL/1200XL

aegroup@tekigm.UUCP (Dennis Ward) (11/20/85)

I would like to convert both my 800XL and my 1200XL to at least 128K so that
the programs I use on my 130XE would also work on the other two. Namely:
Atariwriter+ and Syncalc+ (130XE version) -- when these programs are available,
no I do not have them yet.

Question: does the 256K mod allow for this or does it do a different form of
bank switching/addressing? If different, would it be possible to do a 128K
only mod that would be compatible?

Also, is anyone planning to produce a circuit board/kit, etc. to make this
conversion easier? I would definitely be interested in same, assuming cost is
not to much out of line. (After all, I only paid $139 for my 130XE, why pay
more for an upgrade kit!)

   Let's create net.micro.st and leave net.micro.atari for 8 bit'ers!!!!!

Dennis,
We sell a 256K upgrade for the 800XL for $99.95 that makes it look like
a 130XE plus 128K.

Again, I have to ask a question previously asked by another: who is "we"?
I have never heard of CDY Consulting -- although from your name and the
initials I presume it is you company? Are your products available at
computer stores or mail order or? (By the way, I actually posted this
message, not Dennis, this is part of our reposting screwup here at Tektronix
Clark County site.) I am sure others would be interested in learning where
these "products" are available. I realize that you cannot advertise over
the net, but can you at least answer specific questions like this?

Also, is this upgrade compatible with the 130XE? There was a previous posting
by someone to the effect that some changes had to be made to I believe DOS 2.5
to get it to recognize the additional memory and to allow for both D8: and D7:
RAM disks.

Thanks in advance,

Try looking in the current issue of ANALOG (or was it ANTIC?). I think
they have a full page ad in there.

If it is the company I'm thinking of, they sell a monitor rom that
replaces the one in the ATARI. The two magazines have said it is
extremely useful.

They also sell a floating point rom replacement, FASTCHIP. I don't
know if they just sell it or if they made it. After my first game
of 'Rails West' last week, I'm almost ready to order it.
