Latest News from Atari (Dec 4, 1985) Being frustrated with some rumors regarding Atari products, I just called Atari to get the "straight scoop". Heres what I found: - The TOS ROMS for the ST are not out yet, but, if you have a developer's kit, Atari will send you the latest EPROM version of TOS at no charge if you send them 8 AMD 2256 EPROMS and a self-addressed return envelope for them. To verify that you are a developer, they will check your name against their list of people who bought the developer's package. - They are close to shipment on the 804 printers. - The arcade game set (e.g., Missle Command) is not available yet, but will be by Christmas. I think she said these were being developed by a third party vendor. - They are still working on that ST internals book, which is to be a condensation of the doc. in the developer's kit. - The 10 Mb hard disk will appear as a 20Mb disk on store shelves in January. - The CDROM will not appear in January - she didnt say (know) why, but a rumor I heard was that the drive cost was still too expensive from the manufacturers, and Atari was waiting for the cost to come down. - If you got the developers kit and DIDN'T send in the non-disclosure agreement, Atari claims you won't get any updates. When I asked what updates have come out so far, I was told that the only one was an icon editor. Both the person who answered the phone and the one answering these questions seemed to be VERY rushed, so I didn't go on to other subject areas, such as the availability of MIDI software, or exactly when the TOS ROMs would be available. /Don Peters, Digital, 617-689-1242/ ...decvax!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-pulman!peters
