I thought some of you might be interested to know that Philips and Signetics have anounced they will start producing a CPU called the 68070. It will be fully 68000/68010 code and bus compatible and have an on chip memory management unit, 2 high speed DMA channels, serial port, I2C bus interface and three counter timer functions in one 84pin package (the extra pins are for the peripheral interfaces). It will use low power CHMOS so as not to draw more power than your 68000 already does. It will have the instruction continue capacity of the 68010 for virtual memory. This would make a nice (and easy) upgrade to any ST (or Amiga). Just pull out your 68000 and put the 68070 on a little board that maps all of the 68000 bus pins to the right places. I hope some hardware hacker out there is listening.
