[net.micro.atari] Software Reviews

terrell@OHIO-STATE.CSNET (Eric Terrell) (01/07/86)

I have almost no software for my 520ST, and I am in the market for a good
compiler, word processor, LISP interpreter, telecommunication program, and
drawing program, etc.

After my recent experience buying a C compiler for $60 that was a piece
of trash (Hippo-C) I am reluctant to buy anything that I have not seen
a review of.
The "lead time" of most magazines means that I will have to wait several
months for reviews of obsolete versions of programs. Surely there are
several of you in the net.micro.atari users' group that would be willing
to share your impressions of 520ST software that you have used!

I would review software with some of the following criteria (you will have
criteria of your own, certainly)

1. Name of program
2. What the program does
3. Is the program copy-protected (I almost refuse to buy protected software)
4. How extensive and useful is the program's documentation?
5. Price of program
6. From whom did you get the program
7. Does the program work as advertised?
8. Are there any significant bugs in the program?
9. Is source code available for the program?

    etc...

I hope some of you will review ST software soon (before I get burned again)

Thanks in advance,
