[net.micro.atari] ROM TOS

[]

Rumors about Rom Tos functionality are starting to float across
the compuserve atari sigs. Specifically:

	1) Dialog boxes crash on '_' characters

	2) They didn't fix the notorious 3 compile puts the
desktop to sleep problem. (What? run some batch
programs like the compiler/linker a few times, say 3 or 4
cycles of edit - compile - link - run. Eventually
the desktop forgets about all of your open directory
	windows.)

Any other bad news out there?

Also, many of us put out $300.00 bucks for the developers package, and
received several items that were distinctly broken, and a few things that
were missing. Namely: the command and batch programs have bugs, the
RSC takes a hike frequently, the archiver, icon editor, and various
pieces of documentation are missing, the symbolic interactive debugger
doesn't function at all like the documentation, and the C compiler has
a few irregularities. While I was pleased to receive the Emacs editor
and the new docs for bios, that was months ago, since then a distinct
lack of upgrades have been pouring out of Atari. What gives?

And finally, before I put out $600 for the hard drive, Anyone got one in
use who would like to report on it?

Oh, finally, I don't care where Atari sells ST's, but they sure as hell
should provide a supported and reasonably priced upgrade from 512K to
1024K. I can't believe the drivel about how selling an ST for $500
bucks makes it less of a machine than if you sold it for $1500 bucks.

I have an Atari 20 meg developer's hard disk drive. I don't know how
close this one is to the final version that will come out. It's a
featureless, unmarked grey box with one red LED, a power switch, and
the hard disk connector.

Works great. It's almost as fast for compiling (using the development
kit) as a ramdisk. I have a 1 meg Atari, and I use a ramdisk to hold
the libraries. Personally, I wouldn't leave home without it.
