Are there any terminal emulators available for the ST that emulate a "smarter" terminal than a vt52 or vt100? Even at 1200 baud, using a full-screen editor like EMACS on a vt100 is positively painful. What I'd like to see is something that has an insert character mode and that can insert and delete lines in the middle of the screen, so that EMACS doesn't have to redraw the whole screen whenever you type anything. (In other words, I'm looking for a replacement for my H19 terminal!) Or does the vt100 emulator actually emulate a vt102? -Sandra -------

The vt52 emulation mode on atari CAN insert / delete line. You may need to modify your termcap entry to reflect. I use emacs all the time, and it almost never redraws the whole screen on char/line /region deletes. bammi

In case you wanted to know: the vt52 emulator (desk accessory) does have add line/delete line capabilities. I believe ESC-M and ESC-L are the sequences necessary... try it out. If you want, I can mail you a termcap that makes use of these capabilities. -- Eric S Fraga || esfraga@water.uucp Dept of Computer Science || esfraga%water@waterloo.csnet U of Waterloo || esfraga%water%waterloo.csnet@csnet-relay.arpa

Suggestion for people who write terminal emulators: either include in your documentation a termcap entry for your emulator, or better yet, have a command to send the termcap entry to the host. -- Tim Smith sdcrdcf!ism780c!tim || ima!ism780!tim || ihnp4!cithep!tim
