[net.micro.atari] 520ST rumor

rroux@spp2.UUCP (Ray Roux) (01/22/86)

I've just heard an interesting rumor that I hope is false! It seems
Atari has switched a chip in the latest 520STs that will not allow the
machine to address anything above 512K! And whats worse is that the
old chip cannot be bought. This means if you want an ST that can handle
a meg or more you have to buy a 1040ST.

I was planning on getting the 520 and upgrading to more memory when my
wallet gets fatter. I would guess that a lot of other people have/had the
same idea.

Anyone else heard anything to that fact? Also, it seems all the chips are
soldered now (even the cpu).

I would seriously doubt your source as to that Fact (?). The cpu is soldered
on the production versions already !
