A very good home control application of your machine might be an enviroment control unit. this would monitor the temp of your house (this could be done with thermal resistors). the program could turn down the heating at night, up before you wake in the morning, down while you are at work... etc. on the same idea, it could also handle cooling in the summer... turning on fans or air contidtioner ... whatever these are things that make a computer finally seem like so much more than a toy...
