[net.micro.atari] snide comments on Re: help

bro@RICE.EDU (Doug Monk) (02/10/86)

ARRGH!!

I was happily reading info-atari and saw someone quote virtually the entire
text of someone else's message, then snidely suggest:

>Perhaps you, and a lot of other people also, could start by:-
>1. Learning to spell
>2. Learning to type, or at least to use an editor.

FLAME ON!!!

First of all, this kind of trash is uncalled for on the net. It serves no
purpose whatsoever.

Secondly, this poster has no idea with what situation the original poster
was struggling: I have done my share of time working on systems that only
had line oriented mail programs on terminals where the delete key was
immediately adjacent to the line-feed key ( like the one I am on now ).
I have made my share of spelling errors in mail messages, and I KNOW how to
spell quite well thank you.

FLAME OFF...

To the original poster, who indicated that (s)he was new to the net and
inexperienced: welcome aboard, and remember that not all of us are snide.

Non carborundum illegitimati.

I think that I should apologise to the (Atari) world in general, and
Mr Weisman in particular, about my snide comments on spelling and grammar.
For once, irritation overrode good sense. In fact, I have seen worse
examples of misspelt words and gramatically incorrect sentences elsewhere.
A philosophical discussion on whether the meaning of a message is more
important than the presentation should move to another group (net.junk?).

Since this is Atari, a question relative to the 1040ST. I see comments
that it is being released in Europe, but have not yet seen references
to it in the European Atari (or general PC) journals. Is the 1040ST
really being released in Europe, or is it simply a smokescreen to hide the
fact that it does not yet exist?

Caesar (or Reagan?) non supra grammaticos.
