[net.micro.atari] Look Ma, No Resistors

franco@iuvax.UUCP (02/12/86)

This message is coming to you via a 1 Meg upgraded Atari 520ST with TOS in
ROM but with no (i.e. zero) resistors in the RAS and CAS lines of either
memory bank. It appears the resistor myth is exploded (but not the ST).

Of course there are two reasons why all of you 1 Meggers should not throw
your resistors away yet:

  1. My machine might explode tomorrow or next month or in July.

  2. I may have lucked out and used DRAMs of somewhat different
character than those used by the one other person reporting
      memory failure.

In any case we now have 1 failure and 1 successful ROMing without resistors.
Anyone else care to try?

With regard to 1. if something happens to the memory in the near future
(say a couple of months) I will broadcast that info immediately. With
regard to 2. I used bottom of the line Hitachis.

I have made the expansion with no resistors and no problems. The schematic
I got with the developer's package shows no resistors in RAS or CAS for the
original chips either.

Make that 1 failure and 2 successful. I was just to lazy to add the
resistors with the roms. I have masked ROMS, could make a difference
   with EPROMs.
