If you want the lower level features with a language very similar to Pascal, I recommend the TDI Modula 2 compiler. The documentation is superb and has many examples for using the GEM operating system. In fact, even if I was going to do everything in C, the manual would be a significant help in deciphering the developers kit manuals. I have been using it currently with one double sided drive(my other drive is in the shop) and can compile/link a reasonbly sized graphics program in about 3.5 minutes. The package has all of the bindings necessary to talk to GEM. The language allows address manipulation as well as inline machine code(hex codes, not mnemonics). For the $60-$70 price tag, its well worth the price. Eric Ross ihnp4!hpfcla!hpvcla!ericr
