[net.micro.atari] ST & ordinary monochrome monitors

Someone asked whether an ordinary monochrome monitor
could be tweaked up to run on the ST.
In color modes, yes (with some interface work).
But for the 640x400, nope!
I took a closer look at the pretty colored Atari flyer
spec sheet, and not only is the vertical frequency
up to 71 Hz, but the Horizontal is a whopping
35.7 KHz, or 2.13 times the NTSC standard 15.75!

This answers a long-standing question--
ST Monochrome is NON-INTERLACED!
It really draws all 400 lines in each of 70 frames/sec!
Atari really went all the way on this.

Maybe the IBM PC monitors are already up there
(I think the Mac is only 22 KHz or so),
but no 15.75 KHz monitor could be tweaked to over
double its design freq.

PS: This assumes that the spec sheet is correct.
PPS: The sheet also sez the RGB uses separate,
not green, Sync.
