Some of you ST owners may have gotten a copy of the desk accessory called "ST Font Loader", as described in the January 1986 issue of Antic. It does a really nice job of redefining the standard font used by the ST for all its text. There are about a dozen font files available. Unfortunately, this program does not work with TOS in ROM, as one of the authors, Patrick Bass, hints might happen in one of the early paragraphs of the article. Just to check if this problem had been corrected, I just called Antic and talked to Patrick. He said the main thrust of the article was tutorial in nature, rather than describing a solid application. The problem, he said, was that the program directly overwrote the character set used by the ST. This character set is now is ROM. A workaround would be to store a character set in RAM, and change the character set pointer so that it points at the RAM version. However, he has no plans to do this in the forseeable future. (Too bad, I wanted an updated copy for our club's library.) Sooo, looks like a good project for someone out there! /Don Peters, Digital, 617-689-1242/ ...decvax!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-pulman!peters
