[net.social] love is vulnerability

trb (11/19/82)

More than "love is vulnerability," I'd say that life is vulnerability.
I've been noticing the conversation about contracts and agreements to
protect the folks in marriages.

That's the PROBLEM! Everyone is out there looking for protection.
They don't want to get hurt, that is, they don't want to experience
life. They'd rather read about it on netnews. The kids today. They
only want quick gratification. Hey, everyone, I have news for you.
You can't go around telling the world to only feed you candy. Well,
you can, but it won't, and if it did, life would be D U L L.

Get the hell out from behind your force field and experience life. Go
at it. Take a chance. Make a fool of yourself. Fall in love. Break
your heart. Bang your head against the wall. Cry to your friends.
Scream at your enemies. Scream at your friends.

The other alternative is this: Read netnews. Talk about how stupid it
is to fall in love. Talk about other people making fools of themselves
(being careful not to make a fool of yourself). Talk about which kind of
hamburgers are better.

The world's best contract isn't going to help a loser with his emotional
problems.
