Agents suck dept:
The Shelby Jordan fiasco reminds me of an incident between Billy Sims
and the Detroit Lions. Dr. Jerry Argovitz negotiated BS's contract,
which contained a bonus incentive if Billy led the team in scoring.
After his rookie season, Billy went to collect his bonus, and was politely
informed that he while he led the team in touchdowns, kicker Eddie Murray
led the team in scoring and there would be no bonus. This touched off a
furror lasting for months in which Sims called the Lions management every
name in the book. Now two seasons later, he has declared his intent to
free agenthood.
Instead of a new team, Sims ought to get a new agent. Any bozo negotiating
an NFL contract should know that the kicker always leads the team in
scoring. By the way, Argovitz owns the new Houston franchise of the USFL.
Wonder how many of his clients will play for him, and as an owner, will
he give them the same pie-in-the-sky contracts he negotiated with other
people's money?
