In one of the great mismatches of at least a decade, Brown will face Penn State on November 5 at State College, PA. I'd like to know what net readers think about: 1) How many points will Penn State win by? 2) How many Brown players will be injured? 3) Should Brown even show up? Does anybody know why this game was arranged in the first place, or why it was not cancelled? Somebody is sure to get badly injured in a game like this. Wayne Citrin (ucbvax!citrin)

The way Penn State has been playing this year, I'd worry about Penn State players getting hurt!!! This game was arranged several years ago for one reason: dollars. Go Cal!!!(on national TV(!?)) mhuxt!hstrop

Why Brown vs. PSU? Joe Paterno was a quarterback for Brown once upon a time. Anyway, his team needs a break between WVU, BC, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. Don't ask a PSU alumnus to explain holes in the schedule. Instead, ask some of the other major college football schools why they play a season full of teams with an aggregate losing record. Penn State's schedule has been ranked among the toughest, if not THE toughest, of any college team in the nation for the last several years. -- Ralph Droms Computer Science Department The Pennsylvania State University

I am pretty sure that it had something to do with the fact the Joe Paterno went to Brown. He has always had an interest in Brown football. He played QB for the team. I think that Joe was doing some kind of favor for Brown. I know that the Brown football recruiters were quite successful in getting the players that they wanted when they told high schoolers that they would play in State College, PA. I was always sure that it was a recriuting ploy and the game would eventually be cancelled. Apparently the game is still on... Andy Andres, AT&T Consumer Products Labs, Neptune NJ ...houxo!lpa

The only possible reason PSU and Brown would schedule each other (and the only common ground between them in the football sense) is Joe Paterno's affiliation. He graduated from Brown.

The way Penn State has looked this year, it won't be that much of a lopsided contest. --peter

Are you serious about PSU having a tough schedule? I guess they figured that since they would just squeak by Temple and Rutgers, they should give themselves a break and play Brown. And don't tell me about Notre Dame and Boston College (who also squeaked by Temple this weekend). Send those teams down south and then we'll talk about tough schedules. You may expect the Brown-Penn State score to be lopsided but did you hear the Syracuse-Nebraska score? Now that was funny! (A score in the hand is better than two in the bush) Wally Dietrich
