The way I heard it, ABC and CBS agreed to split the disputed games, one getting Nebraska-UCLA and the other getting Notre Dame-USC. The PAC10 schools disagreed, claiming that the games belonged to the home schools. (I wonder if they would have felt the same way if they were played at Notre Dame and Nebraska.) Since more money would come to them this way, I don't think that this is just being done due to their inherent sense of fair play.
