[Saskatchewan Tough] CFL Updates for the weekend of Sept. 14 to 16 So, you want to know about the CFL, eh? Here's the latest results. Calgary 23 Ottawa 21 J.T. Hay kicked the longest field goal of his career, 57 yards, on the final play of the game to give Calgary the victory, after Ottawa had gone ahead 21-20 on Dean Dorsey's 27-yard field goal with 35 seconds to go. Lewis Walker of Calgary was the leading rusher with 11 rushes for 153 yards, including an 87 yard TD run in the second quarter. Montreal 33 B.C. 17 Montreal held B.C.'s explosive offense to 3 points in the last 3 quarters after falling behind 14-3 in the first quarter. Turner Gill threw two TD passes to Nick Arakgi, including a 57-yard bomb in the third quarter, to put Montreal ahead for good. Winnipeg 48 Hamilton 16 Winnipeg exploded for 38 points in the second half after Hamilton rallied to tie the game 10-10 just before the half. Winnipeg's Willard Reaves rushed 13 times for 97 yards and four touchdowns in the second half after being held to 24 yards in 5 carries in the first half. It was Winnipeg's first sell-out of the season as the fans turned out to razz Hamilton QB Dieter Brock, the former Winnipeg hero who soured on the place last year. Saskatchewan 21 Toronto 18 Saskatchewan marched 75 yards in the final 38 seconds of the game, ending with a 14-yard pass from Joe Paopao to Craig Ellis, to upset the Eastern Division leader. All three of Saskatchewan's wins this year have come against division leaders. Toronto piled up 576 yards in total offense, but only scored one touchdown. Jan Carinci caught 11 passes for 125 yards, and QB Joe Barnes was 30 of 43 for 470 yards in a losing cause, while Paopao was 26-41 for 396 yards. So, the standings are now: Western Division Team W L T Pts. Winnipeg 9 2 0 18 B.C. 8 2 0 16 Edmonton 6 4 0 12 Calgary 5 6 0 10 Saskatchewan 3 7 1 7 Eastern Division Team W L T Pts. Toronto 7 4 0 14 Montreal 4 6 0 8 Ottawa 3 8 0 6 Hamilton 2 9 1 5 Games this coming weekend (Sept. 21-23): Edmonton at Ottawa Winnipeg at Montreal Saskatchewan at B.C. Calgary at Hamilton Who's going to win it all? Well, the East is pretty easy to pick. The WORLD CHAMPION Toronto Argonauts are almost as good as any team in the West (it's a known fact that the West is stronger than the East, and has been for a long time). In the West, I figure it's gonna be between B.C. and Winnipeg, and whoever wins the West is going to take the Grey Cup. But, my sources indicate that Winnipeg's quarterbacks can't carry them that far, so B.C. gets the nod. Of course, you can't rule out the Saskatchewan Roughriders! Shane McDonald (sask!mcdonald)

<==== yum yum ====> >The WORLD CHAMPION Toronto Argonauts >are almost as good as any team in the West >(it's a known fact that the West is stronger than >the East, and has been for a long time). > ... >Shane McDonald >(sask!mcdonald) Well, they have been for a couple of years. I remember the good old days (pre 1980 or so) when Montreal (boo!) and Ottawa (yay) would kick everyone else's butt. Gee, even Saskatchewan used to win with the Ron-and-George show but that is really ancient history.
