[net.sport.football] Switzer: no class

ables@cyb-eng.UUCP (King Ables) (10/29/84)

Well, after watching countless replays of SMU's pass into the
end zone when James Lott was accused of committing pass interference,
I think it is a questionable call, however, there are reasons for
calling it both ways what with incidental contact (the feet) and
a fairly uncatchable ball. I'm not going to debate whether or
not it was a bad call, I've seen it a bunch and I can't decide.
I can say that James Lott claims he shoved the receiver AFTER he
batted the ball down which upon watching the replay is clearly
not the way it happened. The only question in my mind is how
accidental and bad the shove was. But, that's another argument...

What I am going to point out is how much more class Bobby Collins
has than Barry Switzer. Sure he was disappointed and maybe mad
(surely after seeing the replay). But he realized that what's
done is done and proving to the world that you're an asshole isn't
going to change the outcome of the game. He isn't planning on
blackballing any officials or anything! I never like Collins much,
but this weekend I gained some respect for him.

Here in Texas, we've known for years what a jerk Switzer is.
Finally it's becoming obvious to the rest of the world. Let's
see him convince somebody that they should've beaten Kansas
"But that 28 points they scored were all illegal!!..."

I'd Sooner be dead than red.

I couldn't agree more. But you have to like him for just one thing:
The marvelous way he grits his teeth when OU gets allegedly "robbed"
at some various point in the game - you know, he clenches his lips
together real tight, his upper lip almost disappears, the veins bulge
in his neck, and the little balls of muscle right where his jaw meets
his ears, shoot, they bunch up the size of a softball and kinda bounce
around like a bad hop. I mean, have you *ever* seen such a sterling
example of childishness and Okie emotional control? I also like the
way he stomps his toes into the ground when he gets mad - he's so
cute you just want to hug him! I'm waiting for him to hold his breath
and turn blue in the face until he gets his way (I've heard he's done
this in the past, but I've never been so lucky to watch it myself.).
Well, at least he's not Woody Hayes.

HOOK 'EM HORNS! (TCU still raises some underdog-rooting in my soul...)
