From Mike Schwarz: > I believe the Broncos are the BEST team in the NFL and that includes the Miami > Dolphins. They can keep Danny Marino, I prefer Colfax Johnny Elway. > Dan Marino could only play for Miami, he could not play for Pitt. Dallas or > any other good team he would be a 2nd string quarterback. You want flames? You'll get them!! How can ANYONE in their right mind prefer Elway over Marino? FYI, Marino just tied an 22-year NFL record for QBs by throwing for 36 TDs in one season, prev- iously held by Y.A. Tittle & George Blanda. He is sure to break it Sunday against the Raiders, and he has 2 more games after that to add to the record. He is the premier quarterback in the league this year, and possibly having one of the best seasons of all-time!! Stats are just one way of proving the total dominance of Marino over Elway. Both are 2nd year QBs, but the similarities end there. In the weekly NFL QB rankings, Marino is FAR ahead in first and I don't think Elway has made it into the top half. Elway has been VERY inconsistent. I would also say that Denver's offense is ranked about 20th (of 26!) in the league and the Dolphins are #1. About half of Denver's wins this year were either totally or partially because of their defense scoring points for them. Their offense stinks! Prediction time: Denver will be a wild-card team (after losing to the Seahawks again in the last regular season game) and then proceed to get blown away in the wild card game (by either the Raiders or Patriots, probably). There is no way an offense like Denvers' can carry them far. And of course the Super Bowl will be won by the best team: Miami Dolphins. ----- Bruce Kovalsky ..sdcrdcf!trwrb!trwspp!spp2!kovalsky kovalsky@spp2.UUCP

> How can ANYONE in their right mind prefer Elway over Marino? Agreed. Marino is clearly having the season of his career (or anyone else's for that matter), and would be anyone's pick for the top QB in the league. > And of course the Super Bowl will be won by the best team: Miami Dolphins. I beg to differ here. The best three teams in the AFC are all in the same division--the AFC west. Grant it, the Dolphins are undefeated against the likes of Buffalo, Houston and Indy, but (after yesterday's games) are 0-2 against AFC-west opponents; in all likelihood, the 'fins will play only AFC-west teams in the playoffs. (When's the last time Miami beat the Raiders? Shula is 0-5 against Flores.) Fouts and Wilson have shown that the Miami's defense (particularly its pass rush) is suspect. Odds are that the Dolphins will last only one round in the playoffs in spite of their spectacular offense and home-field advantage. ******************************** Steve Vegdahl NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR Computer Research Lab. typos Tektronix, Inc. logical errors Beaverton, Oregon actions of my pet alligator ******************************** Wasn't it Mike Haynes who caught Marino's record-setting 37th TD pass? :-)
