[net.sport.football] Richardson rankings with 1 week to go

jeff@dciem.UUCP (Jeff Richardson) (12/11/84)

Here are the Richardson Rankings following the games of week 15. The top 4
teams' ratings are so close that you almost have to consider it a 4-way tie.
The winner of the Denver-Seattle game will probably end up on top, since a
win against a team in the top 4 is worth more than a win against the 9th or
11th ranked team (Miami & San Fran's week 16 opponents, respectively). Miami
and San Francisco will probably end up 2nd and 3rd respectively if they both
win, but what happens in the other games may also effect the top 4. For
example, if Pittsburgh beats the Raiders, San Francisco or Miami could end up on
top because, since Pittsburgh's rating will go up, the 49ers won't get as many
bad points for their loss to Pittsburgh while, since the Raiders' rating will
drop, the AFC West teams will get fewer good points or more bad points for their
two games each against the Raiders. Miami's rating will not be affected as much
since they played both Pittsburgh and the Raiders once each.
