< I dare you to read this line... > Hey - when are you guys gonna get hip? You keep talking like either the Seahawks or the Broncos are going to the Superbowl. FACE FACTS, FOLKS! This year's AFC champions are gonna be the same guys as last years - the OAKLAND Raiders. The Seahawks beat them because of injuries, and a missed FG. The Broncos are just plain lucky, although recent trends seem to indicate that their luck has run out. (Being originally from Baltimore, and a CAL grad, it's instinctive for me to hate Elway's guts, anyway.) In the meantime, the Raiders have their wind back, not to mention good ole' Jim P. (who they would have to be CRAZY not to start in the playoffs). Playing Miami as already been shown to be no obstacle, and if you think one of YOUR teams is gonna nail them, especially now that they've slipped into mean mode, then I'd like some of whatever you've been smokin'. Just take a look at the Raider-Detriot game. Granted, Detroit ain't exactly the 49ers, but I find it amusing that they put Plunket in at the end of the game just to limber him up for the playoffs. And he limbered his way to a touchdown bomb on his second series, just before the game was over. And then there's the defense - I lost count of all the sacks, not to mention the brillient pass coverage, include an interception runback for a touchdown. Face it, people, you're history! The way things are going now, you'll probably end up injuring each other's key players in your last regular season came. In any case, fate has decided that San Francisco will play the Raiders in Palo Alto, so the Bay Area can have the Superbowl all to itself. After all, this does represent the ultimate confrontation between good and evil - the nice guy, clean-cut, let's-do-it-one-step-at-a-time 49ers against the nasty, dirty, what-the-hell-throw-a-bomb-and-go-for-broke Raiders. It'll be just like star wars! Seeing as I live in Berkeley, however, I'm not sure whose side I'm on... -- Renegade of Berkeley MDS Qantel ucbvax!dual!qantel!israel Disclaimer: "Who me? Hey, I'm a Raider fan, too, but I don't want to have to eat all the crow generated by your flames if such a prediction turns out to be incorrect. The Raiders have a particularly poor record in the Kingdome, should they end up playing a game there. Their record on the road in AFC championship games is somethng like 1-5. The Raiders are playing well, and in spite of having to play lots of games on the road, I'd give them as good a shot at being at Stanford in January as anyone else in the AFC. But I think it's a little premature to count the chickens quite yet. If you're really convinced the Raiders will be there, how 'bout offering to cover all even-money bets as to whether they'll be there. I bet you'd have a lot of takers. > (Being originally from > Baltimore, and a CAL grad, it's instinctive for me to hate Elway's > guts, anyway.) Being a Stanford grad, I kind of like John Elway. By the way, what school did "good ole' Jim P." go to? > In any case, fate has decided that San Francisco will play the Raiders > in Palo Alto, so the Bay Area can have the Superbowl all to itself. Sportcasters and journalists notwithstanding, I believe that Stanford is incorporated as Stanford, CA, and is distinct from Palo Alto. That being the case the 1985 Super Bowl will NOT be played in Palo Alto. Typical Raider fan, has no sense of what part of the state the team is in. > Playing Miami as already been shown to be no obstacle, No obstacle, huh? Just wait until they have to play in Miami on Dec. 29/30 when the Dolphins are TRYING. Marino may even throw for 600 yards, and 7 or 8 TD's. That is if the Raiders make it past their wild-card game against the Broncos/Seahawks (probably Denver). > Just take a look at the Raider-Detriot game. One pass to a wide-open receiver against an inept team compared to several bobbles and mishandled snaps does not tell me Plunkett is any good. I'd be GLAD to see him in the playoffs against any kind of team and see if he can hold on to the ball then. His days are over. > Seeing as I live in Berkeley, however, I'm not sure whose side I'm on... Root for the Bears. They have as much chance of winning the Rose Bowl this year as the Raiders have of getting there. ----- Bruce Kovalsky "GO DOLPHINS!" ..trwrb!trwspp!spp2!kovalsky
