[net.sport.football] Congratulations BYU . . .

dcm@busch.UUCP (Craig Miller) (01/07/85)

Well now. I just wanted to convey my personal congratulations to
BYU. It looks like almost everyone now agrees who's number #1...
Even Oklahoma... (maybe not Washington, however...)

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question "Why is BYU #1?".
There were many varied responses, all of which had good points.
I will admit I was surprised at first how many people agreed with
the polls and said BYU should be #1. Maybe everyone knew something
I didn't... Oh well.

Congratulations should also go to Washington for the game they played
in the Orange Bowl. I guess maybe Switzer and the rest of the Sooners
finally showed what they were really made of (you don't know how much
it hurts to say that, except that I've never been a big Switzer fan
anyway - believe it or not...). I actually believe that part of the
reason they didn't play so well was that they probably came into the
game real cocky. You can probably blame that on Switzer...

Congratulations should also go the the Schooner for helping Washington
(even though they didn't need any help at all...). I'm still kinda
confused what happened... Did the referee screw up when he indicated
the field goal was good, or were they just not supposed to be out there?
(did anyone see them out there previously in the game when Oklahoma
scored? I don't remember...) Even though it was kind of stupid to be
out there delaying the game, I did think it was kinda unclassy for the
Washington players to kick at it, etc... But...

The best part of the game (at least to me) was the Skycam... Pretty
slick... I was waiting, however, for (1) a kickoff or punt to hit one
of those cables... would probably raised quite a ruckus..., (2) the
guy running it too screw up and hit someone with it (that might have
been funny, though...). It was neat, though, to see those angles we
aren't used to seeing in most games...

Oh well. See you all next season . . . Might be interesting if BYU
goes undefeated next season, won't it? We'll see...
