Come on people, lets have some articles in this newsgroup. For starters
how about a poll on who you think will win the national championship
this year. Most of the polls I have seen tend to point towards Auburn,
Nebraska, Oklahoma and even Arizona(not ASU but UA!!!). I am personally
a Washington fan and haven't seen them in any of the polls. Watch out for
them, I think they'll pull off another 'rebuilding year' and end up in
the Rose Bowl.

I would like to point a few surprise teams for this years season,
Northwestern(!!), Arizona, Washington State(!!).

Well, here we go again, no response from this newsgroup yet.
The last real word I heard about college football was about
Greg Pratt, the fullback from Auburn(starter), who died from
heat stroke two to three days ago. Originally, it was thought
to be caused by heat attack.
Since Auburn was pick so high in the pre-season polls(top three in
most), I wonder if this would cause a big problem for them. I
haven't read anything about what effects this may have on the
performance of the team as a whole.
I finally saw a poll that knew what it was talking about, well sort
of anyway. They pick Washington as #19(GO HUSKIES). As far as
they were concerned, their early games against Michigan and
LSU would tell us about how good they are. If you notice, the
PAC-10 this year seems to be opening the season as the ultimate
football conference that it is. Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA,
USC and Washington are ranked in the top twenty. Also, as I
mentioned earlier, Washington State will be a surprise team
this year, look for them in a post-season bowl game. Any
Big-10 fans out there??????? Eat your hearts out.

COME ON YOU PEOPLE LETS LIVEN UP THIS NEWSGROUP!!!!!

Does anyone know what the pre-season ratings are for Alabama? What may be
interesting is the fact that Ray Perkins (of the N.Y. Giants fame) will be at
the helm. Usually coaches go from college to pro's rather then pro's to
college. Will it have any bearing on the team?

As far as I am concerned, if Stanford wins a game this year they
will be spoilers, even to Oregon State!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stanford should have done a lot better with Elway around than they
did. I think they need a new coach. Agreed, no matter how good
Washington is every year, they always had a hard against them, but
I think thats because of our lack of a good pass defense. In fact,
last year I even predicted them to beat the Huskies only because they
hadn't really played a team with such a pass oriented offense.

Ever since the draft incident I have hated Elway. Look at Baltimore in
pre-season, they really didn't need that spoiled brat(this is just an
opinion so no flames please).

GO HUSKIES!!

Some general comments regarding college football this year:
   1) Penn State will definitely not win the national championship
this year - Nebraska will take care of them in the first game of the
      year!
   2) According to an article I once read, Joe Paterno is among the
five most overrated college coaches, and rightfully so! He is
DEFINITELY NOT the best coach in the nation! My vote goes to
Barry Switzer (Oklahoma) one of the five most underrated coaches!
   3) The Big Ten is a good conference, but lets not forget the BIG
      EIGHT!
   4) Oklahoma will assume its rightful place this year as the nation's
number one college football team, despite having to play Texas,
Nebraska, and Ohio State this year.
   5) On the side, I for one am glad John Elway is playing for Denver-
who would want to play for Frank Kush anyway?

I just saw the Net Poll. For the most part I would agree with
except for the part about Colorado being number 16. Northwestern
may be good this year, but come on people they're not that
good. We need more people voting, I would assume that there will
be more enthusiasm as the season gets under way.

One thing though. I thought the article asked for our votes for
the top 10 teams not 20. Maybe I was wrong about that but thats
all I sent in. What the heck is Brown doing anywhere even close
to the top twenty?? Do we have a few 'Brownians' (pardon the pun)
in school who decided to be smart?? This should be a serious
poll I mean one where people are voting for the best teams not
there favorite teams!!!!!! Thats almost as bad as saying Penn
State should be #1 and we all know thats impossible. Enough
Brownian motion over there.

 GO WASHINGTON HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You want to talk about college football, eh? Well, in my biased attitude,
I will be glad to. How about Georgia Tech? They seem to be surprising
everybody this year (including the Tech campus). For those of you who don't
know (and probably don't care), let me tell you a little about Tech after
2 games (Tech 16, Alabama 6; Tech 48, The Citadel 3). Tech has the nation's
top-ranked offense for pts scored (4.5) and for yards allowed (193). Now, the
real big question is can we beat Clemson this Saturday? Clemson is favored by
7 points, and the did just have a heartbreaking loss to Georgia (grr!) last
weekend. What does everyone else think? Have we just been lucky? or is there
talent on our team this year.

I'm ramblin' wreck from Georgia Tech, and a helluva engineer

OU was originally scheduled to play SMU on sept. 14, (in fact, the
schedule in my hand has that game listed, then crossed out)
the OU-SMU game has been moved to Dec. 7. at the same time, sept. 21
is OUs "off" weekend. so with the first game moved, OU doesn't play
until sept. 28, when they will remove minnesota from division-I football.

i kind of wish OU wasn't ranked so high also. even switzer was quoted
as saying the rankings right now, and OUs being 1st in a lot of poles,
means nothing. but it's hard not to pick them #1, they had a very
good team last year, returned a LOT of people. not to mention the
two side-by-side pre-season all americans (casillas, murphy) on defense.
(casillas was all american last year...)

Why is it Oklahoma isn't playing any games until the end of September?
And even then they are only playing Minnesota. Why are they ranked
number 1 in the USA Today poll? I hope they don't stay there long
since other teams are out there winning tough games and the Okkies
are afraid to come out and play. I think Auburn or Florida (#2 and #3)
should be at the top. #4 Iowa hasn't played yet either.

Does anyone know what the AP top 20 is this week? The Asbury Park
Press didn't list it in Tuesday's paper. I am specifically interested
in the Florida Gators, who showed the Miami hurricanes that without
Kosar and Schnellenberger they don't stand a chance of winning.

So how 'bout some predictions for this week? I'm gonna go out on
a limb and predict the Florida Gators will beat Rutgers. And I
hope Washington destroys BYU! Is anyone else playing?
