Well, George had another good week last week. On our scale for point spreads described last week here is how he did: Points 0-4 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-up Total Week 2 3 6 3 3 1 16 Season 4 9 4 3 3 23 That's picking 13 out of 23 games correct within 9 points of his spread. As far as picking the correct team to win (given his spread) George's record for 23 games is 9-15 which is not very good. I hope none of you are using our predictions to make some money. I'm sure he will improve as the season goes on. Here is his top twenty for this weekend. George's Top Twenty (or so) - Week three 1. Oklahoma Sooners 13. Air Force Falcons 2. Auburn Tigers 14. Penn State Nittany Lions 3. Florida Gators 15. Southern Methodest Mustangs 4. Florida State Seminoles 16. Notre Dame Fighting Irish 5. Southern Cal Trojans 17. Illinois Illini 6. Iowa Hawkeyes 18. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 7. West Virginia Mountaineers 19. Louisiana State Tigers 8. Maryland Terrapins 20. Alabama Crimson Tide 9. Arkansas Razorbacks 21. Baylor Bears 10. Nebraska Cornhuskers 22. Brigham Young Cougars 11. Ohio State Buckeyes 12. Oklahoma State Cowboys REMINDER: George's top twenty is based on power ratings of the teams which adjust themselves throughout the season. That is why you see some teams there that shouldn't be and some that are not there that should! Air Force at 13??? Give me a break!!! Now, here is George's predictions for Saturday's games. We apologize for getting this out so late. I've been out fighting a mild case of strep throat and this is the first chance I have to post this. Air Force at Wyoming Air Force by 8 Arkansas at Mississippi Arkansas by 4 Arizona State at Michigan State Michigan State by 3 Baylor at Georgia Baylor by 1 California at Oregon State Oregon State by 1 Clemson at Virginia Tech Virginia Tech by 1 Duke at West Virginia West Virginia by 8 Georgia Tech at North Carolina State Georgia Tech by 2 Louisville at Indiana Indiana by 6 Louisiana State at North Carolina ** EVEN ** Maryland vs Boston College Maryland by 8 Miami at Rice Miami by 2 Notre Dame at Michigan Michigan by 1 Northwestern at Missouri Missouri by 11 Oregon at Colorado Colorado by 2 Pittsburgh at Ohio State Ohio State by 7 Rutgers at Florida Florida by 13 Syracuse at Mississippi State Mississippi State by 4 Temple at Penn State Penn State by 9 Texas A&M at Alabama Alabama by 4 Tulane at Texas Christian Texas Christian by 8 UCLA at Tennessee Tennessee by 3 Utah at Hawaii Hawaii by 3 Texas-El Paso at Colorado State Colorado State by 9 Vanderbilt at Kansas Kansas by 7 Washington at Brigham Young Brigham Young by 5 Washington State at Arizona Arizona by 3 Now you can see how brain-damaged George can be. Miami by 2 over Rice?!? BTW, many on you have asked just who the people are behind George. Well, my name is Mannie Lowe (msdc!mannie) and I do most of the postings. My partner in crime is Win Strickland (gatech!win) who helps in entering the scores to our programs and in fine tuning them. Thanks to all who have responded both in mail and in posting to this newsgroup. Hopefully, when more students get back to school, we'll be able to take over this newsgroup with talks about the college game. I'm getting tired of seeing all the postings about NFL Picks. Keep those cards and letters coming. See you next week! George P. Burdell George's Football Picks Atlanta, Georgia {gatech,ihnp4,mcnc,ncsu,akgua}!msdc!gpb

e apologize for ... >Air Force at Wyoming Air Force by 8 Ahem ... maybe George is a little better than you give him credit. What was the Air Force - Wyoming score? Where is AFA ranked in USA Today? Nobody ever takes the Academy seriously! They have won every bowl game they played (except maybe in '68); especially when they weren't supposed to. It's true that they have disadvantages... like having to graduate; and pretty strict height and weight requirements; and not much PRO future;; BUT they do some great games. The Hall of Fame bowl against Vanderbilt a few years ago had to be one of the best football games I've seen. And, they always seem to play best as under-dogs. Back in '76?, they were something like 3-6-1 but that tie was against top-ten Notre Dame, and top-twenty UCLA pulled out a prayer field goal with 20 seconds left to win 31-30. Give the Falcons a chance.
