[net.sport.football] George is at it again !

gpb@msdc.UUCP (George P. Burdell) (10/09/85)

Well, here we are again. George had his best week ever last week. He even
helped me win a T-shirt from the local fishwrap for a contest they hold
each college football season. That's right (all you Atlanta readers) --
George Beat the Press !!!

Anyway, out of 36 games predicted, George picked 23 winners!!! That's
slightly under 64 percent right. He lost 7 games out right and lost
6 to the spread. For the year that makes him 81-37-29==147 which translates
to a 55.1% winning ratio. We look for that to climb as the power ratings
balance themselves out. As for spreads, well so many people are blowing
away their competition that George isn't picking them very well. Here's
his totals for last week and the season.

    Points 0-4 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-up Total
    Week 6 4 7 7 5 13 36
    Season 31 37 23 16 40 147

About George's Top Twenty or so: Air Force couldn't hold on to it's top
spot. It seems a lot of people have trouble holding on to George's numero
uno. I think this is our seventh number one for seven weeks (I could be
wrong, I'll have to check our files). The Cornhuskers nabbed the top seed
because the Falcons couldn't get their talons into the Irish hard enough.
Other teams of interest include the best ranked 3-2 team in the nation.
Yes, George is talking about them Turtles from College Park. They took
number 10 this week. My Bumble Bees from the flats snuck back in by shutting
out UNC (number 16). The Hoosiers make their first appearance in our list
by being undefeated. It's their best start in a long time after having
broken the nation's longest losing streak from last year. Now here is
George's list for this week:

George's Top Twenty (or so) - Week seven

1. Nebraska Cornhuskers 13. Florida State Seminoles
2. Michigan Wolverines 14. Ohio State Buckeys
3. Air Force Falcons 15. Army Cadets
4. Oklahoma Sooners 16. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
5. Florida Gators 17. UCLA Bruins
6. Brigham Young Cougars 18. Alabama Crimson Tide
7. Iowa Hawkeys 19. Oklahoma State Cowboys
8. Arkansas Razorbacks 20. Virginia Cavaliers
9. Baylor Bears 21. Tennessee Volunteers
10. Maryland Terrapins 22. Southern Cal Trojans
11. Auburn Tigers 23. Indiana Hoosiers
12. Miami Hurricanes 24. Penn State Nittany Lions

This looks to be an interesting week for the Vegas oddsmakers, bookies,
prognosticators, and would be fortune tellers. There are five interesting
games that are worth noting here. Alabama-Penn St (1): this game should
really be that close. It's going to get a lot of viewer attention.
FSU-Auburn (4): The question here is which Auburn will show up at the
tiger den. Neb (7)-Okla St.: I think this game will be closer than
what George says because it's in the Cowboy's ranch house. Tenn-Fla (11):
This game should be closer than 11 points. One thing for sure, the
airways will be filled with pigskins. Vir (6)-Clemson: I personally
hope Clemson gets their act together and win this one so my Jackets
can win the ACC this year. Well, here are George's picks for week
number seven in their entirety:

Now watch this week. My analysis above George's picks will totally be
wrong. Alabama will romp over Penn St. Auburn will crush the Seminoles
like they were Podunk U. Tennessee will cripple Kerwin Bell and Galen Hall.
And Virginia will run up the score using the third and fourth string
offense.

Does that cover all bases or what?!? Have a good week and
Happy 100th Birthday Georgia Tech !!!!!!

See ya next week!
