. . . . he just never gives up. George had another average week picking the football games last week. He picked 23 winners, 9 losers, and lost 6 to his spread. For the year he has a 200-81-59==340 record. That makes him 59% right for the year. If George were going to the bookies, he'd probably be just breaking even. "Just wait for roundball season," he told me. Here is his spread record for last week and the season. Once again, he hit his average. Points 0-4 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-up Total Week 11 12 5 5 5 11 38 Season 82 77 57 38 86 340 Pctage 24 23 17 11 25 George's top twenty or so seems to have stabilized (knock on wood). There are some teams that still like to flip-flop between each other but as the season goes on, the maximum number of points you can change diminishes. Penn State finally blew someone away last week. The bad news is that George doesn't have a power rating for East Carolina so the game does not count in the top twenty calculation. Once again, Penn State is not there. In fact George has the Lions tied for 26th with a 116 power rating (Michigan has a 130 power rating for point of reference). Now, I can hear you yelling out there so here is George's top twenty or so for this week: George's Top Twenty (or so) - Week twelve 1. Michigan Wolverines 12. Arkansas Razorbacks 2. Nebraska Cornhuskers 13. Notre Dame Fighting Irish 3. Air Force Falcons 14. Baylor Bears 4. Iowa Hawkeyes 15. Auburn Tigers 5. Miami Hurricanes 16. Florida Gators 6. Brigham Young Cougars 17. Tennessee Volunteers 7. Ohio State Buckeyes 18. Southern Methodist Mustangs 8. Georgia Bulldogs 19. Alabama Crimson Tide 9. Oklahoma Sooners 20. Oklahoma State Cowboys 10. Maryland Terrapins 21. Louisiana State Tigers 11. UCLA Bruins 22. Arizona State Sun Devils Well, it's starting to get into the interesting part of the season. The media is plotting out all of the different conference match-ups that we'll see. (If Georgia beats Auburn and Tennessee loses and LSU gets lost at the airport....). Also, the bowl scouts are going to their games of interest to them. The alumni are starting to pressure the coaches. Yep, Fall is here (basketball season starts next week !!!!). Air Force flies into BYU this week to decide the WAC crown. George has this game as a toss-up because BYU has been coming on of late. I hope Air Force pulls it out. Auburn goes to the dogs this week and we hope they can sink their talons into them bull puppies but George still thinks Georgia will win. Maryland-Clemson should be a good game and we hope that Clemson can pull the upset so Tech will have a share of the ACC crown (provide they beat Wake Forest). But George will go with Maryland by a touchdown. Here are the rest of this week's picks. Later in the week or early next week, George will enter the Land of the Giants and predict the major hoop action. Look for his pre-season "Top Twenty or So" soon. Have a good week and keep up the comments. George P. Burdell George's Football Picks Atlanta, Georgia {gatech,ihnp4,mcnc,ncsu,akgua}!msdc!gpb
