...and it's a 7-10 split !!! Bowling season is now upon us. The pinnacle for most teams and a national champ will be crowned (or two) with the usual problems associated with the selection criteria. Well, enough of that. For the regular season, George picked 235 winners, 103 losers, and lost 92 to his spread. Translating that into percentages is 55-24-21. Not a bad season but he could do better. Here is George's spread rating going into the bowls: Points 0-4 5-9 10-14 15-19 20-up Total Season 102 103 71 50 104 430 Percentages 23 24 17 12 24 Sorry I'm not going to include George's top twenty or so for the regular season. Suffice it to say that there was no change from the four games of December 7th. So, what's next is George's picks for the bowls. Sorry Fresno St and Bowling Green fans, George did not pick the California Bowl. Who really cares anyway?? No, what happened was that we didn't follow any of those teams throughout the season so we couldn't predict the game. The biggest bad by George in these picks is that he predicts Oklahoma will beat Penn St. by 10. I don't agree. I hope Penn St wins the nationally championship. I'll be up in that neck of the woods on the 3rd anyway. We hope you enjoyed our picks all season. I would like to say one thing about some of the discussion whether these picks condone or do not condone gambling. We are not using the information we compute for betting purposes. We also posted at the beginning of the season that no one should use these spreads for that purpose. Hell, we only picked 55% correct. If you count the "service charge" that bookies use for you to place a bet, you would be losing money. We are only posting these picks for your amusement. We also posted the picks to generate some discussion about the game of college football. I think it was a fun season and judging from the responses I did get compared to the people who post most often to this group, a lot of you enjoyed reading these postings. Next year, we probably will only post George's top twenty and record in picking and offer the picks by mail (like we are doing in basketball where we have about 30 people receiving the picks by mail). I apologize to anyone we might have offended out there but I don't think that is very many. Now on a lighter note. Here is our wish to you that you have a safe and enjoyable holiday season and to a very prosperous 1986. Happy New Year !!! George P.
