[net.sport.football] Barry Switzer

So it looks like Mr. Switzer has finally won his championship. I
wonder how many of the players on Oklahoma's team will graduate
four years after entering school? (High school graduation
doesn't count!)

For the record, the way I view the top ten is:

1. Michigan (2 fields goals away from a 12-0 record!)
2. Air Force
3. Miami, Florida
4. Oklahoma
5. Penn State
6. Iowa
7. Tennessee
8. Maryland
9. Brigham Young
10. Nebraska

Flame away.

"It's a sort of mini-clone!" Who said them, what story?

You posted this as a joke, thinking it funny, no? Congratulations. When you
grow up you may be eligible to become one of the Eastern sports writers that
doesn't recognize football west of the Rockies and has a local chauvinism
beyond rational belief. (That's okay, though. There are people here in
California who think Phoenix is back East. Takes all kinds, I guess.)

Michigan #1 is arguable, but not unreasonable.
Air Force in the top five is okay, given their record, but remember, their
schedule is pretty soft.

But how can you justify ranking Miami ahead of a Tennessee team that took them
apart?

And what is Iowa doing number 6, ahead of a UCLA team that creamed them?
What is UCLA doing off the list?
What is an over-rated BYU team doing at number 9? Sure, they were 12-3, but
most of those victories came against weak WAC opponents. If you're going to
take that point of view, what happened to undefeated Fresno State?
<I don't for a moment seriously think Fresno State should be in the top ten;
the question was for rhetorical purposes only.>

Maryland? MARYLAND? For the love of pointspreads, what is MARYLAND doing in
the top 10? Hey, there's a real ACC power. Ooops. This isn't basketball?
Well, sure, they may have beaten Clemson and some other stiffs, but Maryland c
couldn't hold a candle to any of the decent teams in the SEC or SWC.

This may not constitute the flame you requested, but it's the best I can do
on Sunday morning. Gotta run, now. The Bears are going to be on TV.
