[net.sport.football] TWO new Superbowl Teams

jjc@houxa.UUCP (J.CARBONARO) (01/13/86)

Quick, when was the last time a Superbowl was played with BOTH teams
making their first appearance?

jjc@houxa.UUCP (J.CARBONARO) (01/13/86)

I THINK it's true that in the 19 previous Superbowls, only 3 were played
between teams that were BOTH new to the big game - and that INCLUDES the
obvious, Superbowl I. I think the only others were SB3 (Colts/Jets)
and SB16 (49ers/Bengals). It's odd that really early SBs, like SB4 right
up through SB15 had at least one "veteran" team.

Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

"It's a sort of mini-clone!" Who said them, what story?

You're right! I have a complete list of the participants in the Super Bowls
and you are correct about two new teams into the Super Bowls.
