[net.sport.football] NFL prediction systems

gknight@ut-ngp.UUCP (gknight) (01/11/86)

Is there any interest in handicapping systems on this net --
i.e., systems that predict winners against the line rather than
simply straight up?

For playoffs, I'll offer two as gifts!

1) Bet on the team, regardless of the line, which gave up the
fewest points on defense during the regular season. It's 4-for-4
in the first round games this year (and likes New England and Chicago
in this weekend's action)!

2) My personal algorithm based on comparing median performances. It
was 3-for-4 in the first round (5-for-6 if you count the wild card
games) and likes New England +5 and the Rams +10.5 this weekend.

Anybody else got good systems for either the regular season or
the second season?

You asked for it!

Bet on the team wearing the dark uniforms. It's 7 for 8 in this year's
playoffs, the only miss being the Pats-Raiders game.

The Dolphins wore their white jerseys while beating the Browns.
Also, the Giants often wear their white jerseys at home but I can't
remember what color they wore when they beat the 49ers.

Speaking of prediction systems, more than one stock market analyst has
used the superbowl as an indicator of things to come. It seems that if
the NFC team wins, then the Market will have a BULL year, and if the
AFC team wins it will be a Bear year. Well, the 49ers (NFC) won last year
and we had a BULL year! I just hope we have a Bear superbowl and thus a
bull year. Otherwise, we will have a bull superbowl and a bear year???

The Dolphins were wearing white, but they didn't cover the spread. The
Giants wore blue against the Niners.
