[net.sport.football] TAKE THE POINTS

This Super Bowl reminds me an awful lot of the
Chief-Viking matchup. The Chiefs entered the game as
13-point underdogs. The media kept raving on and on about
the awesome Purple People Eating defense of Minnesota. The
Bears are definitely a great team but ANY team can be beat.

To cover 9.5 or 10 points in a big game is not the easiest
thing in the world. I have spoken with many Bears' fans who
start mouthing off on how the Bears are going to kill the
Pats but when I ask them if they want bet the line and give
those points, they stammer and hedge. All the people who
are giving up those points are going to be swearing at their
Sony if New England scores a TD first. Try to make up 16.5
points against a team who has lost only twice in three
months (the Jets in O.T. and Miami 30-27). I know the Bears
are great, but the Pats are extremely sound, great at
covering the spread (14-0 as of late), RED HOT, and should
not be taken lightly. Beating NY in NY, LA in LA and Miami
in Miami is a monumental feat.

The Bears didn't hold Miami to 14 points in Miami.

The Raiders got no respect in the few weeks before they
played the Redskins. The Pats are loaded with all-pros, as the
Bears are, but the pressure is not on them, it's on the Bears.
Just like the pressure was on the Bears in Miami.

It will be a great, close game. Take the points.

P.S. The Pats' special teams are FAR superior to the Bears'.

One big difference is that the Vikings hadn't already played the Chiefs
that season and held them to 32 rushing yards, intercepted their
quarterback three times, and allowed them only 21 seconds across the
50 yard line.
