[net.sport.football] Bears

jackieb@ihuxn.UUCP (Jackie Barczak) (12/12/84)

As a Bears fan (speaking only for myself here) if there hadn't been so
many injuries you better believe the Bears would have been a good playoff
pick. Realistically though, there's always next year.

HOWEVER, there are such things as miracles (or in the case of some of those
Californians. . . fantasies. )

Behind those Bears now and forever !

<Some people like watching their team get massacred twice??? I am a
<big Bears fan, and I think they probably are head and shoulders better
<than the rest of the teams this year. The real question seems to be
<(my opinion) who's second best? However, having lived in Chicago for
<the last 22+ years (until March 1, 1985), I know better than to expect
<them to win it all. They will probably do an el-foldo in the SuperBowl,
<like the Illini did in the Rose Bowl a few years ago, the Cubs did 2
<years ago, and the White Sox did 3 years ago. However, the Bears
<are real young and they have beyond a shadow of a doubt been the best
<football team in the NFL over the last two years (they were one game
<away from the SuperBowl last year).

I think I know what you mean by "over the last two years", but I hope
you're not saying they were better than SF last year. I'm sort of
indifferent to the Niners as a fan, but they were as far above the
rest of the league last year as the Bears have been this year - and
they didn't do any el-foldos (I don't think the Bears will either).

<And they are doing it without 2
<ProBowl players on their defense from last year (contract hold outs).

I think they are doing just FINE with the guys they've got. By the way,
who are the two you're referring to?

<Just remember, the Bears will play all of their playoff games at home
<in January in Chicago. Boy are they gonna be tough. By the way,
<last year on SuperBowl Sunday, it was 80 Degrees BELOW ZERO with the
<wind chill in Chicago, while it was a sunny and warm 72 here in
<the San Fransisco Bay area.

You have GOT to be kidding - it was in the low 40's and misting!

<One last thing, I figure the 49ers will beat the Giants and play the
<Bears at Soldier Field on the weekend of the 12th of January...
<Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

With benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I can safely say you're wrong - it'll
be the Giants freezing their tails off in Chicago.
But are we using the same calendar? I thought it was the 5th of January.
Anyway,
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
is right!!

Al Harris (the Fridge wouldn't have played a down this year on defense
if Harris signed) and Todd Bell (safety). I agree they are fine as they
are but they would be even better (on paper) with those two guys. I am
quite sure that Bell was an All-Pro last year, and if Harris wasn't, he
was awful close.

It didn't look that way at Stanford Stadium on TV from Chicago. I also
talked with a friend in the Bay area on the phone that day. He may have
been pulling my leg (80 below can make 32 degrees seem like a tropical
paradise).

Go BEARS!!!!

I was hoping that the Bears would have gotten to play the 49ers at home,
cause they would have MAULED them and stompped em and wiped the field
with them, which would have made up for last year's playoff loss pretty
nicely.

	Al Harris and Todd Bell.

To all you Pat fans that posted HOW THE PATS WILL WIN SB XX

Better luck next time, but I hope the Pats improve over this
year. The game was boring. Like a College team vs. high school!

The BEARS could have beaten any team on Jan 26.

As for a best of seven series, come on, get serious!
No team could win a "best of anything" series against
	the BEARS.

This DID happen. In the game against the PACKERS, Chicago
seemed to just be going thru the motions. Then GB scored a TD to go up
10-9. Chicago came right back and took the lead, winning 16-10.
Any way you look at it, the Bears were by far the best this year
(Of course that's just my opinion, Bob).
