[net.lsi] New 1 GIGAbit memory technology

drabik (03/31/83)

Today, on WFMT, Chicago, it was stated on the morning news that
NEC has a one GIGABIT memory technology which will be "ready" in
four years. It was not mentioned whether this is done with silicon,
GaAs, mirrors, or whatever, but the statement that "the previous
highest level of density has been a quarter of a million bits, with
a million foreseen" (--paraphrased) leads one to believe that the
technology is one which may at least be measured against Silicon.
Has anyone heard anything specific?
