The meeting emphasizes computer aided engineering methodologies
and their impact on EE education, particularly as applied to vlsi
design as well as design tools applicable to other electronic
systems. Three special features highlight this year's activities.
The first is an in-depth tutorial on engineering workstations which
surveys the state-of-the-art in this radically expanding area. This
presentation was very well received recently at the First Inter-
national Conference on Computers and Applications in Beijing, China.
The second feature is a session covering recent initiatives by
GE and IBM to assist departments in the development of contemporary
courses in integrated circuits which also include fabrication
services. In addition, the more mature relationship between TI
and several different universities will be presented, along with
a report on the NSF Fast Turnaround Facility. The third feature
is a panel presentation on the use of personal computers in EE
curricula, with panelists drawn from schools with different
views on how computing resources should be provided . The
schools represented include Steven's Institute, Drexel,
Carnegie-Mellon, VPISU, Michigan and Clarkson. in addition
to thses features, the Workshop will provide presentations of
computer aided engineering software materials and systems,
courseware projects and new programmatic thrusts.
