I am currently constructing a 26' sailboat(Luger Tradewinds**) from a kit.I intend using the boat for coastal cruising with occasional island hopping in the caribbean with probably no more than a 40-50 journey between islands. I am beefing up some of the components during the construction stage. So far the enhancements are as follows. 1.25% increase in size of all rigging components. 2.Main sail currently has roller reefing but I will also be installing reef points as a contingency measure. 3.Add reef points to jib sail. 4.Roller furling for jib sail. 5.Weld bracing struts to mast tabernacle. 6.Bond graphite fibres to mast to add strength (especially where hardware is attatched to mast). 7.6" spaceing for the hull to deck fastenings(+ bonding) 8.Through deck fastenings backed up by 3/4" wooden backing blocks. 9.Foam floatation (estimated final weight approx 4200lbs therefore have installed 70 cubic feet of foam). 10.Extra ribs installed in hull 11.Scheel(TM) type fin keel in place of retractable keel. Now for my questions .......... 1.Do I have enough foam flotation ????? 2.Should I have calculated maximum water displacement ,found the weight thereof and used that as the basis for installation of the foam as opposed to my method of all up weight + 20% ?????? 3.Anyone out there with a light displacement keel boat who has experienced breakages of any kind to originally installed(recommended) equipment ???? 4.Any other suggestions for strengthen the overall boat. MAIL ANY RESPONSES PLEASE In advance .....thanks Dave Peak Room HP1-B270 Bell Telephone Laboratories 6 Corporate Place Piscataway New Jersey 08854
